Hi there.

It’s nice to meet you! A BLOG? Yes. We’re starting this. Here’s to the official first post. I’ll be periodically writing about topics that I think we need to be discussing more (and are aligned to SBA’s mission) and to highlight episodes. So, for my first post, let’s talk a little about purpose.

Stop Blaming Avocados started as a podcast. It was inspired by my experience watching, listening, and reading all sorts of stories from various experts or leaders. There’s a lot of good content out there.

Ok, and there’s also a lot of crap. But we’re not focusing on that (today).

But with all of the good content out there, there was something seriously missing from all of it: diverse voices; diverse voices sharing stories of the incredible work that they are doing that impacts communities and most importantly: people.

So that was part 1. Start a podcast that was focused on elevating underrepresented voices and their work to make the world a better place.

Part 1 makes an assumption that there is a part 2.

So much of the news, stories, and social media posts that we see shared about leaders or organizations are fear-inducing (and also sometimes clickbait) and can make things feel pretty dark a lot of the time. Now I’m not saying that there isn’t a lot of darkness in our world, there’s loads of it. We are nowhere near living in a utopian world. We have so much work to do. There is never a better time than now to build purposeful and socially conscious work. And in my (humble) opinion, what we need most of all is hope.

So, part 2 is about hope. Not only do I want to help provide space for diverse voices doing inspirational work and discuss topics that quite frankly are not front and center in mainstream media, but I want to help create more hope. And I know that this is possible because each and every episode of Season 1 provided me with a little bit more hope that we can dream incredibly big and keep shooting for utopia.

Let’s be clear, this is not toxic positivity. It’s recognizing that shit is hard. This work is uncomfortable. We need creative and new solutions that don’t exist yet. And that’s why we need hope to continue to inspire a new generation to work towards a beautiful, peaceful world.

Remember: "Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that." —Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Stay tuned for Season 2 coming soon-ish. Have folks you’d like to recommend as a guest? Head to the contact form or reach out on LinkedIn or Instagram.

Thanks so much for being here.
